Janus Access Control – time to upgrade
Support for the popular but ageing Janus Access Control system has now been withdrawn – but you can still get all the benefits of Janus, plus a host of extra features, by upgrading to SATEON
Janus Access Control, also known as SiteGuard, which was launched over 25 years ago, was the first access control software to run on Windows. It became very popular, and has been used all around the world – including in very high-profile locations such as the Swiss-Re Tower (the ‘Gherkin’) in London.
However, since Microsoft announced in 2017 that they were ending support for all 32-bit versions of Windows, it has become clear that keeping support going for Janus and SiteGuard will not be possible. So from October 2017, the manufacturers made Janus a ‘legacy’ product, and stopped support for it.
What should I do?
The good news is that the manufacturers of Janus and SiteGuard have introduced a new and much better system, called Sateon Advance. There is an easy upgrade path from Janus and SiteGuard to Sateon, and Sateon supports legacy hardware, so you won’t need to change all your wiring and locks. GES Security are fully trained to upgrade your access control system from Janus to Sateon.
What are the benefits of Sateon Advance?
No Installation, Multiple Users
Sateon runs on the latest versions of Windows, and is browser-based. This means you do not need to install anything on your PC, ensuring a quick upgrade and seamless backups of your data.
In addition, Sateon’s browser based interface means it can be managed from anywhere, by anyone with a PC, tablet or smartphone.
When upgrading your site to Sateon, all existing users and access policies are automatically migrated, saving hours of administration.
Additional features such as access groups make administration seamless with Sateon, allowing you to bulk manage personnel, change access rights or remove an entire access group in one go.
Sateon reduces the time spent tracing lost cards, or regaining cards from visitors. Cards can be programmed with automatic end dates when access is only required for a specific amount of time or manually deactivated through the Sateon interface. This ensures you have full control over who has access to your building at all times.
Powerful Cause and Effect
Sateon allows users to configure a set of rules which trigger events. For example, automatically unlocking the reception doors when the receptionist logs into Sateon. These triggers reduce the time spent manually securing your building.
Sateon’s points system allows you to police cardholders. It will utomatically suspend cards if it detects irregular patterns of behaviour – e.g. if a member of staff tries accessing a restricted room too many times.
How is Sateon Advance Access Control different?
Sateon Advance is a ‘blade based’ access control solution. Both hardware and software have evolved to deliver a single, slick, scalable system for installers, integrators and their end users.
It’s as intuitive as it is cost effective. Just snap blades into place to add capacity – Sateon’s ‘Quick Start’ mode is designed to set up a door with 25% less clicks, taking just 90 seconds!
